I want to be sure they are in the right and not just throwing on a patch that our Battalion (our Battalion has it's own unique patch) does not consider to be authorized. It's important to the troops who have this as their first deployment. I appreciate any guidance that anyone can offer. I bolded the parts that I feel could be saying no to the wearing of other unit patches. I have read and reread the following ALARACT trying to decipher if more than a memorandum is required for these troops. I am aware that changes have been made regarding the authorization of the patches. They have a Memorandum signed by a LTC from the unit offering them the patch to wear. They showed up at their locations and performed their duties while answering to the other unit's command. The question before me is: Are they authorized to wear the unit's patch that they support? The troops are not attached to those units via paperwork. They are at sites all through Afghanistan supporting various different units. Here's the deal, I have several young troops who never deployed before.
